Sake tends to be a tad bolder than most wines, but not by much. Because it's transparent and given in small glasses, many people assume it's as powerful as clear alcohol like vodka or rum. The strongest sake, like genshu, is only around 22% alcohol by volume, almost the same as port wine. Undiluted sake, on the other hand, has an ABV of around 18% -20%, which is higher than wine's usual range of 9-16%. Unless sake is dissolved using water before bottling, its alcohol content will be about 15%.
